Improving Mental Health & Physical Fitness

A Focus on Acceptance & Commitment Therapy

Benefits of Physical Movement for Your Mental Health

Exercise provides significant mental health benefits by physically altering brain chemistry and body function, including releasing endorphins, endocannabinoids, and neurotransmitters like serotonin that reduce anxiety and depression

“It decreases cortisol (stress hormones), promotes neural growth, improves sleep quality, boosts energy levels, and reduces physical tension”.

-National Institutes of Health

The Process

Help clients acknowledge and work through ambivalent feelings. EMH aims to help individuals discover the internal motivation needed to support their mental health and reshape limiting beliefs, while making positive, incremental changes over time.

Being Present

Clients will pay close attention to what their bodies and minds are experiencing emotionally and physically. The emphasize is not judging or criticizing the experiences, but to acknowledge feelings and thoughts while honoring them.

“Mindful Movement: Focusing on the physical sensations of exercise (e.g., breathing, muscles working) can amplify the mental health benefits)”.
